Operating System

The StarFighter is built specifically for Linux. You can choose from a selection of pre-installed distributions, including Ubuntu, elementary OS, Linux Mint, Manjaro and Zorin OS.

If you prefer something else, you can choose to have no operating system installed. You can easily change the installed Linux distribution using a USB flash drive.

Firmware

Your StarFighter will support American Megatrends (AMI) Aptio V and coreboot firmware.

Comparing AMI Aptio V to coreboot; it is closed-source and has many features, including Secure Boot and capsule updates. coreboot is open-source and very lightweight, allowing faster boot time and less power consumption.
By default, the Intel ME is disabled on both coreboot and AMI.

You can can switch between AMI and coreboot firmware anytime, as often as you want.

Please note - the coreboot firmware for AMD processors is currently in development. It is likely to be ready by dispatch, but it might not be. Should that happen, we will send your StarFighter with AMI firmware, and you can install coreboot from the LVFS once it is available.

Resolution

In this first custom batch, you can configure your StarFighter with a QHD or 4K display.

The 4K display consumes more power, averaging 8W but provides incredible detail and excellent scaling support that allows you to change the UI (User Interface) to a size that's comfortable for almost everyone.

The QHD display supports a refresh rate of 165Hz, which offers a silky smooth experience. It consumes less than half the power of the 4K display at 3.2W. Limited scaling support on Linux means that the UI on this display is relatively small compared to other display resolutions.

Power Plug

Your StarFighter will charge via the USB-C port and comes with a 65W USB-C charger. It includes one detachable plug, and you choose from UK, Europe, Australia and the USA.

You can purchase additional plugs.

Storage

Your StarFighter will come with 512GB Gen4 PCIe SSD storage by default, which features a sequential read speed of up to 7000MB/s. Over-provisioning increases performance and IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) whilst enhancing reliability and endurance.

You can configure it with 4TB Gen4 PCIe SSD storage, giving you more storage capacity and increased performance with sequential read speeds up to 7000MB/s.

You can upgrade or replace the SSD; this requires a small Philips screwdriver.

Charge Cable

Your StarFighter will include a USB-C Charge Cable (2m) by default. You can select alternative length, as these cables are available in either 2-metre or 5-metre lengths.

Warranty

Your StarFighter will come with a 1-year Limited Parts and Labour as standard.

This warranty can be upgraded to 3-year Limited Parts and Labour for added peace of mind.

The warranty covers all parts (except batteries) that fail or do not meet specifications due to manufacturing defects. However, it does not cover failure caused by accidental damage or misuse, nor does it include shipping costs.

Your StarFighter will come with everything you need. We have accessories such as recovery drives, which you can use to recover or re-install the Operating System.
